Staff V Student Cricket Match

15.03.17

The mercury tipped 30 degrees for the fourth Students vs Staff and Parents Cricket match held on the school oval on Wednesday 8 March. Year 12 music student Sarah Harrap gave a rousing rendition of the anthem before the students, led by Liam Neshoda, elected to put the staff in to bat first.

However, the students fielding, perhaps a reflection of their captain, left a lot to be desired and the decision certainly looked to have backfired as Grant Lean set about justifying his hefty Indian Premier League (IPL) contract by spraying the opening bowlers to all parts of the ground, racing to 40 off just 20 balls in no time at all. Saad Habib, who inherited the Captaincy from Gary Ashby (a noticeable absentee from the line up), played exquisitely for 23 and he was supported by a brief but productive cameo from Nick Patzel (16). The Staff/Parents score was helped by several dropped chances in the field and at the break, they were on a high having posted a more than respectable 150 from 16 overs.

Students Will Stafford and Jordan Gould opened at a blistering pace attacking the bowling of staff Tom Linnell and Morgan Fisher to wrestle back the initiative in a match of fluctuating fortunes. While Fisher did take the wicket of our school captain, Neshoda and (Angus) Watts kept the score ticking over as did Adam Kuhl with a brisk 22. Yet, is was left to Stafford to return and save the students blushes by racking up a further 16 runs off the final over (together with Lucy Williams 4NO) to secure another contentious victory, burying the hopes of the Staff/Parent team who had sensed a real opportunity to convert their score into a winning total.
